Although the coccyx, which forms the distal part of the spine, is small in size, it plays an important role due to its anatomical relationship with surrounding muscles, ligaments, and bony structures—particularly by contributing to the balanced distribution of body weight in the sitting position. Disorders of this region, caused by various factors, typically present with localized discomfort and pain in the sacrococcygeal area. Coccydynia is often chronic in nature and is characterized by pain that intensifies with sitting, commonly described as being `localized to the tailbone.` While many etiological factors may be responsible, the most common cause is idiopathic.
